My Favorite Photos - October

I chose 7 photos to share from October.  It was hard to narrow it down, since I'm obsessed with pictures of my dog and the changing leaves!  I hope you like the ones that made the cut πŸ˜€

First up:  Finally got to go to dinner out.  I'm always amazed by how seldom we do that now, when before the pandemic, we went several times a week.  Truth is - it's really a treat now.  This was taken when my daughter and her FIANCΓ‰ came back from their trip to Boston, which is where he proposed.

This next photo is me in my 'costume' for my company's Virtual Halloween party.  I am not a fan of Halloween in general, but this was just a T-shirt and mask - the cape came with the shirt - LOL!

This photo is unfiltered, and I love the bright colors against the perfect sky.  I made this my Facebook cover too.

I took this next photo when I dropped my husband off at the airport.  He went to visit family in Kentucky, and was thrilled to be able to travel.

I had to include these next 2 shots that my son shared from his adventures in Colorado.  He is having a blast riding his mountain bike and bouldering practically every day.

And last, but not least... I screen shot this from my daughter's Instagram stories last night - Unlike her mom, she loves Halloween πŸŽƒπŸ’›

And... that's a wrap!  Hope you liked the ones I selected.  Thanks for swapping and I hope you have a great month!

Cheers,

Ilyse - Happy Mom

My Favorite Photos - September - Swap from Happy Mom

September was a busy month!  Here are some highlights πŸ˜€

My first few pictures are from just the other day...  My daughter got engaged!  Her boyfriend planned the proposal for the trip they're on to Boston this week.  I'm so impressed with how he put things all together.

Earlier this month, they adopted a sweet dog from the shelter, named Iris.  She's a retriever-pitt mix and so very sweet!

And not to feel left out - here's a pic of my dog, Tilly ...

And my son's dog, Pica - They live in Colorado:

Jacob bought a new truck this past month - It's a beauty!  Hence, the Toyota hat!

This next picture was taken after the team won the championship.  My brother (3rd from left) is the coach and our family was raised on hockey!
The others in the photo are my niece and her husband, plus my nephew.
Yes, my niece is on the team!

Here are a few shots + a selfie from a recent walk ...  I'm participating in the 52 Hike Challenge, and this was Week 8 for me.

Those are my photos from September...I hope you liked seeing them.  Hope everyone there is happy and healthy - Stay safe and Swap Soon :)

Friendship Books - Different Types

I plan on hosting some FB-making swaps on Swap-bot, and want to have examples of the different types of Friendship Books that can be made and swapped.  I'm certainly not "the authority" on Friendship Books, and have no desire to be the FB Police... but I've been swapping them for over 50 years, and I can tell you that there's a big difference in how these books are made.  It's disappointing when someone invests a lot of time making High Quality FBs for a swap, but receives Friendship Sheets in return.  Hopefully, these descriptions and samples will help prevent that from happening and keep us all on the same page.

For starters - we know that all FBs are made by one person for another.  Sometimes, people make FBs for themselves and will say "Made For and By" on the info page.  The maker of the FB sends it to a pen pal or swapper, who adds her info - could be a label, stamp or handwritten - and then she sends it on to another pen pal who does the same thing.  Each FB is a few pages long with room for anywhere from 6-20 people to add their info.  Once there's only room for one more person, the FB is officially a "HOMER" and the last signer should send the booklet to the person for whom it's made.  That's what all FBs have in common.

Here's how they are different:

These are categories or types that are widely accepted in the swapping world.  Note that each type gets more detailed and builds on the one before it.  The photos I'm sharing are from books I've received over the years.  I've blurred out the names for privacy.

FRIENDSHIP SHEET (FSS):  Simply a piece of paper, usually folded to booklet size.  No decoration or cover.

REGULAR FB:  A few sheets of paper stapled together, usually without an actual cover or maybe a small piece of paper that's smaller than the booklet itself, stapled on top (like a gum wrapper, movie ticket stub, etc...)

Note the small ad stapled as a 'cover'
Die-cut memo paper

made from memo paper

NICE FB:  A few sheets of paper stapled together with an actual cover that is the same size as the booklet itself.  Most often, the cover is a magazine cut-out, photo or postcard mailer.  Sometimes the cover has a sticker or two on it, but typically isn't what I'd call a "composition".  Staples can be in the corner or across the top, or sometimes in the crease of a notecard.

NICE & NEAT FB:  These FBs have front and back covers that are made from one piece of folded cardstock or a notecard,  and are decorated with some embellishments and/or stickers.  Unlike a Nice FB, the NN FBs do have some artistic components to them, and they're usually covered with clear tape or plastic for protection.  Staples shouldn't be showing on the cover.

HIGH QUALITY FB:  These FBs are little works of art and typically have several components/layers.  Often, the books are held together with hidden staples, brads or ribbon and often that's part of the composition.  These are always covered in plastic.  Often referred to as HQ FBs.

These are just samples, of course!  And there can be books that fall between 2 categories - For example, I've received some books in the style of a "NN FB" where the maker stapled paper inside a notecard but didn't decorate the cover.  Even though the FB has a front and back cover, there's no artistic element added, so it really isn't a NN FB.  Still, it's not a Regular FB either πŸ˜„it's somewhere in between.

I hope these examples and explanations offer clarity to the types of FBs I swap.  Reach out any time with questions, and I hope to swap soon.

ESG: My Favorite Photo - August

Hello swappers and welcome to my blog!

I'm excited to share a bunch of my favorite photos from August.  It was hard to narrow it down, because I've been taking tons of pictures, and I love sharing them.  August is my favorite month and summer is my favorite season!

So....without further ado...

My birthday is August 10th, and I turned 65 this year.  I don't feel 65, probably don't act it either!  But I love the oceanfront, and decided to make a quick trip to Virginia Beach to celebrate.  It's about 2 hours each way, so Tilly and I left home around 9:30 that morning and were home by 5 that afternoon.

She's not a big fan of the waves, but enjoyed checking it out - She loved all the different smells!

Some family had a great sense of humor here!

I always love the sky and the clouds - especially when the gulls pose for me!

When I got home from the beach, I received beautiful flowers from both of my kids!

I also love taking pictures on our daily walks through the neighborhood or at the nearby park.  I just love seeing trees so green and full.  Here's a cool leaf I found on the path, some pretty pink flowers and a view from the trail.

Here are 2 photos my son sent from a bike ride in Colorado:

And last, but not least...  Here's my girl, just chilling on the deck and waiting for our next great adventure!

Well - congrats to you, if you've made it this far!

You can follow me on Instagram if you'd like to see more of the everyday stuff.  HAPPYMOMSWAPS is my swap page, and ILYSEJOHNSON is my personal feed.

ESG: My Favorite Photos - June

Hi Swappers!  I'm doing something different this time, and sharing photos that my son has sent from Colorado.  He moved there in May and has shared some incredible shots!  He's also become quite the mountain bike rider now, and rides every day.

Even his dog, Pica is happy and seem to like it there, as you can see in this first pic:

Mesa Verde National Park is where the adobe ruins are located.  I would love to see that in person!

This next one is one of the sunsets he captured on a ride:

And another!

I love the colors and textures!  Where he's living is even higher altitude than Denver.  Look how close to the clouds they are :)

I hope to get out to visit him either this Fall or early next Spring.  I think it looks amazing, and I hope you enjoyed seeing these too.

Have a great month, and thanks for swapping!

Cheers,

Ilyse - Happy Mom

ESG: My Favorite Photos - May

 Hello and Happy June everyone!

Here are 4 of my favorite photos from May for you - Enjoy!

I just love getting a whiff of the honeysuckle when it gets hot outside, and that fragrance lingers most of the summer.  It's so refreshing and comforting to me - weird, but true!  This is some wild honeysuckle I pass on my walks with my dog,
and it always makes me so happy!

Next are 2 photos of the pups...Tilly is my Basenji-Terrier mix and she goes everywhere with me... Next is my son's dog, Pica, at their new home in Colorado.

And last, but certainly not least... This is my husband and my daughter out on the deck over this weekend.  She stopped by to pick up a few things, and we visited for a bit.  She is now a homeowner herself, and I love that she's close by!

I hope you liked the photos - always fun to share!
Follow me on INSTAGRAM or friend me on FACEBOOK if you'd like to see more as they're posted.  I enjoy seeing your photos too, so even if I'm not one of your partners to send to, feel free to include me when you send out your swap.  Thanks!
